Haifei Wang 王海飞

I’m a Ph.D. candidate at the Centre for Quantum Technologies, NUS. I work mainly on experimental quantum optics, and I also spend a lot of time with FPGAs, embedded systems, and experiment-control software.

What I work on

Quantum optics experiments

Building and aligning optical setups, working with photon sources and quantum-state measurements, and analysing experimental data.

FPGA & embedded

Using FPGAs for precise timing, real-time feed-forward, and digital signal processing, with occasional PCB and embedded-system work.

Experiment control

Writing instrument-control and data-acquisition software that ties separate devices into a repeatable experiment.

How I got here

I studied physics at Wuhan University. Alongside the equations and theory, I kept coming back to circuits, programming, and hardware. Once I started working in a lab, those interests naturally ended up in the same projects.

Quantum-optics experiments come with very concrete engineering questions: Is the timing accurate enough? Is the signal processing fast enough? Can the setup run the same way every time? FPGAs are a good fit for many of these problems, which is why I enjoy working with them.

This site is where I keep notes on physics, mathematics, and engineering. Many posts first appeared on Zhihu and were later moved here.
